Pub Lunch Club

Pub Lunch Club

The Pub Lunch Club project got off to a flying start in September with thirty two residents attending the first lunch at The Lowndes Arms in Whaddon. The Great Horwood club followed two weeks later and we will soon launch at Quainton, Drayton Parslow, Granborough and Tingewick.

The Clubs will be among the first of many to be launched right across the County with the support of Bucks Community Action (BCA) and the County Council which is sponsoring the project.

The idea of the Clubs started in Shropshire as a way of helping people maintain a level of social contact in rural areas. It’s aimed at the over fifties and especially those who are becoming socially isolated. A two course meal (main course and pudding) plus tea or coffee will be on offer for just £5.00 to club members and it costs nothing to join.

BCA’s Llew Monger does all of the initial work by finding a suitable outlet and negotiating a lunch deal. Stage two is to gain the support of the Parish Council and find one or two people in the community who will act as bookings secretary and host. These will probably be people who are already active in the community and likely to want to develop the project.

Once we have the local contacts we can promote of the first lunch through local newsletters and a leaflet drop. Further local publicity and the use of local knowledge about people who would benefit from the scheme will be vital. On-going support will be provided by BCA to those involved.
